Tips for being a successful Massage Therapy student

  • Prior to starting school, research massage schools in your area to ensure that the school covers your specific interests
  • Try to take an introductory massage class so you have a feel for what school would be like
  • Interview individuals in the industry to gain insight on your new career choice
  • Receive a massage
  • Practice modalities/techniques on family and friends
  • Create healthy habits while attending school
  • Always ask for feedback from instructors and classmates
  • Constantly review your anatomy and kinesiology
  • Be sure to speak up and ask questions in class
  • Take advantage of clinical extern/internship opportunities
  • Participate in study groups/tutoring
  • Read information on the industry to keep up to date on new developments utilizing massage magazines, periodicals, etc.
  • Join a national massage association to receive quarterly information and helpful tips
  • Network with classmates and make lasting relationships throughout your career
  • Maintain a positive attitude
  • Participate in as many outside events offered, this will provide outside experience and a chance to perfect your techniques
  • Utilize communication skills and active listening practices
  • Take advantage of class visits from employers to get an idea of what area of massage therapy interests you most
  • Have professional business cards made to hand out to clients
